On March 18, 2021 and on On the occasion of China’s celebration of the 2021 World Engineering Day, the CAST held a grand opening ceremony for the establishment of the Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE) on March 18, 2021. A number of leaders attended the ceremony to jointly unveil the CSE’s logo and deliver award plaques to its founding members, including Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of the 13th CPPCC National Committee and President of the CAST, Li Xiaohong, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Huai Jinpeng, Executive Vice Chairman and First Secretary of the Secretariat of the CAST, Tian Xuejun, Chinese Vice Minister of Education and Director of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, and Gong Ke, President of World Federation of Engineering Organizations. The ceremony was presided over by Song Jun, Secretary of the Secretariat of the CAST.
Wan Gang stressed in his speech for China’s celebration of the 2021 World Engineering Day that, engineering technology professionals plays a key role in promoting human civilization and social progress, and shoulders the important mission of boosting progress and innovation in engineering technology. The establishment of the CSE will offer more convenient ways for engineering technology professionals to realize their value, spur economic and social growth, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation between China and the international engineering community. Therefore, the CSE will offer its wisdom and strength as a representative of the engineering community to contribute to the realization of global sustainable development goals and the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
This event received wide attention from the international engineering community. A large number of professional bodies send their congratulations congratulated the establishment of the CSE through congratulatory letters and videos, and expressed their hope to establish closer cooperation with the CSE in the future, including five international (regional) engineering organizations (the International Professional Engineers Agreement, Washington Accord, the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific, the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology, and the Federation of African Engineering Organizations), and national engineering organizations from Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Malaysia, Poland, Ukraine and Costa Rica.
The CSE was jointly established by 76 influential national societies, local engineering societies, universities and enterprises, including the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), the Beijing Institution of Engineers, Tsinghua University and the China Electronics Corporation (CEC). It is aimed at gathering various social forces from the engineering field, industry field and education technology organizations, enabling the engineering technology professionals to realize their value, and promoting regional economic development and the global exchanges and cooperation in engineering technology. It also strives to build a community of engineers’ carriers, values and destiny, and offer its wisdom and strength as a representative of the engineering community to contribute to the comprehensive construction of a modern socialist country, the promotion of human well-being, and the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
