On December 2nd, China-ASEAN roundtable dialogue on exchanges of engineers was held online. Luo Hui, Member of the Party Group and Director of the International Cooperation Department of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Vice President and Joint Secretary-General of Chinese Society of Engineers, Mohd Khir, Secretary General of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations, Norlida Buniyamin, President of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Lin Mingshan, Director of International Cooperation Committee of Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE), Vice President of Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE) presided over the opening ceremony and special report, Yau Chau Fong, ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO), Head Commissioner of ASEAN Engineering Register presided over the open discussion.
Luo Hui said that ASEAN and China are geographically adjacent, culturally connected and economically complementary. In recent years, projects such as Thailand-China Railroad, Laos-China Railroad, Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway in Indonesia have been launched in ASEAN, and a large number of both Chinese and ASEAN engineers have contributed their wisdom and strength to the smooth implementation of the cooperative projects. This dialogue aims to explore the establishment of a long-term mechanism for communication, dialogue and cooperation, promote the mobility of engineers, and promote mutual progress and prosperity. CAST and CSE hope to work together with the AFEO and the engineers organizations in ASEAN countries, share the concern for the career development and value realization of engineers, jointly explore multilateral and bilateral mutual recognition mechanisms for engineers, and jointly set up an institutionalized ASEAN-China dialogue and exchange platform for engineers.
Mohd Khir believed that globalization brings both opportunities and challenges to the engineering field, and that AFEO looks forward to working closely with its partners in the ASEAN region and beyond to enhance the competency of engineers and explore effective ways for engineers to move across borders.
Norlida Buniyamin said that IEM hopes to strengthen cooperation with CSE in terms of engineering competency and capability development, and learn from each other through exchanges.
Zheng Kai, Director of CAST Center for Professional Training and Services, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of CSE, Yau Chau Fong, ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO)/Head Commissioner of ASEAN Engineering Register, Zhang Hongping, Deputy General Manager of Science and Technology Department, China Railway Construction International Group Limited, representatives from engineering organizations in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand and Brunei made presentations, and communication sessions were held to share experiences in engineer accreditation, registration and facilitation of engineer mobility. We are looking forward to the establishment of a regular exchange mechanism between engineering organizations in China and ASEAN to carry out in-depth cooperation in improving engineers' capabilities and promoting mutual recognition of qualified engineers.
China-ASEAN roundtable dialogue on exchanges of engineers was co-hosted by the CSE and AFEO, with the theme of "Mobility of Engineers for Prosperity and Sustainable Development", it aims to build a dialogue and exchange platform between the Chinese engineering communities and ASEAN engineering organizations. Representatives from International Cooperation Department of CAST, CAST Center for Professional Training and Services, CSE, AFEO, IEM, IES, PII, Myanmar Engineering Council, Council of Engineers Thailand,Brunei Pertubuhan Ukur Jurutera & Arkitek and more than 60 experts and scholars from national institutes, universities and enterprises participated in this roundtable dialogue.
