The Second Greater Bay Area Engineers Forum was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEC) from May 21 to 22. Under the theme of “Connecting the World by Engineering Innovations”, the forum was hosted by the Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE), organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES), the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau (MAPST), the Macau Institution of Engineers, and the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology. Dozens of science and technology associations, professional associations, institutions, and relevant entities in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau co-organized the event.
Mr. CHEN Xuedong, vice president of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Mr. WANG Xi, vice governor of Guangdong Province and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Ms. Bernadette Linn, secretary of the Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and Ir Aaron BOK Kwok-ming, president of HKIE, addressed the opening ceremony. Mr. CHEN Yong, academician of CAE and president of the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, presided over the opening ceremony.
Mr. CHEN Xuedong said that it’s necessary to unite and lead engineers to strive for more breakthroughs in original and leading technologies and boost the commercialization of engineering and technology findings and industrialization of engineering and technology. He called for efforts to carry forward the spirit of scientists and engineering culture, guide engineers to comply with engineering ethical norms, strengthen their awareness of sustainable development, and enhance their ability to solve complex engineering problems through technological innovation. He also stressed the importance of advancing a broader agenda of collaborative innovation across more areas and in greater depth among engineering communities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and the whole world, hoping that the Chinese engineering community would offer its wisdom and strength to contribute to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
