The CAST Center for Professional Training and Services (hereinafter referred to as the “Center”) (the CSE’s Secretariat) held the Exchange Seminar on Promoting the Mutual Recognition of Engineering Qualifications Between China and Pakistan on June 10, afternoon through video conferencing under the guidance of the International Liaison Department of the CAST. The event was aimed at implementing the Memorandum of Understanding/Agreement on Deepening Cooperation and Engineering Competence Building signed between the Center and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) on November 8, 2019 and relevant provisions in the Minutes of the First Meeting of the Joint Working Group on Science and Technology under the Joint Cooperation Committee of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and effectively promoting the mutual recognition of engineering qualifications between the two sides. Nasir Khan, registrar of PEC, and Fazal Khalid, Director of the PEC’s Engineering Accreditation Committee, attended the event. It was presided over by He Wei, Deputy Director of the Center.
During the seminar, the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE) introduced the engineering competency assessment standards on behalf of the CAST. In particular, it gave a detailed description of each stage and specific procedures of the assessment. The PEC further introduced the methods of engineering education certification, engineer registration, continuing professional development, and engineering practice examinations. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions over a series of topics, including establishing a normal communication mechanism, promoting engineer exchanges, and facilitating mutual recognition of qualifications, based on the MoU previously signed and the working mechanism of the mutual recognition expert committee established before. PEC wished to establish cooperation with the CAST in engineering education, qualification certification, engineer mobility, expert exchanges, skill development/ soft skill training exchanges and other joint activities, in order to explore feasible means of engineering service exchanges and technology transfer under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
