The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE) have established strategic partnerships with their counterparts in Spain and Portugal, marking a major step forward in international engineering collaboration.
He Junke, Executive President of the CAST and Chairman of the CSE, met with his counterparts of the Instituto de la Ingenieria de España (IIE) of Spain and the Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE) of Portugal. The meetings culminated in the signing of cooperation agreements aimed at bolstering academic exchanges, promoting international cooperation in engineering capability building, and advancing the mutual recognition of engineer qualifications.
In Madrid, He and María Cruz Díaz Álvarez, President of the IIE, formalized the partnership between the Chinese and Spanish engineering communities. Spain, a keen advocate of the Belt and Road Initiative, has an engineering society encompassing nine specialized areas, including aviation, civil, and agricultural engineering. The society is dedicated to driving the progress of engineering education, enhancing engineers' skills, and promoting international collaboration in the engineering domain.
In Lisbon, He met with Fernando de Almeida Santos, the current president, and José Vieira, the former president, of the OE. The meeting reinforced a shared commitment to continued academic exchange and the development of engineering capabilities. Portugal stands out as the pioneer among Western European countries for signing a Belt and Road cooperation document with China, bringing a rich background in engineering capacity building to the alliance.
These agreements are anticipated to not only strengthen the bonds between Chinese and Iberian engineering communities but also to facilitate a new chapter of innovation and knowledge exchange in the engineering field. The partnerships will benefit a broader, more integrated global engineering network, fostering advancements that could have a lasting impact on the industry worldwide.
